Cricket

Sheffield Collegiate Cricket Club is the premier cricket club in South Yorkshire and has an illustrious history dating back to its formation in 1881. Running women’s and girl’s teams as well as men’s and boy’s teams, new members are always welcome.

Abbeydale is the Sheffield home of R66TAcademy, running coaching sessions for boys from 5 to 11 years and girls from 5 to 13 on Friday evenings Mid-April onwards. The academy is a great evening for the whole family to enjoy the cricket, the open space and the big family BBQ.

Visit the Sheffield Collegiate Cricket Club website for further details.

Bowls

Abbeydale Park Bowling Club has been in existence since the 1940s and has enjoyed it’s position within the wider Abbeydale Sports Club. The club typically has 90+ members aged 50-95yrs with a pretty even split of gents and ladies.

Unlike many other Sheffield bowling clubs APBC does not participate in league bowling. We can therefore offer fun and relaxing social bowling 7 days a week and we have 3 time slots every day where people routinely turn up for a game and just make a foursome with whoever comes. The bowling season starts in April and end around the end of October. We then switch into a comprehensive schedule of weekly activities right through the winter period with something happening every day of the week. This includes:

Coffee mornings, board game sessions, Bridge sessions, Whist Drives, Domino Tournaments, Rummikub sessions, Keep Fit classes and much more.

We also have quiz nights, the occasional Race Night and various evening meals for special occasions.

It’s a lot of fun and it’s a great thriving community of lovely people who enjoy getting together especially throughout winter when many people might otherwise be stuck at home and lonely.

We welcome all newcomers and will provide coaching so they can quickly learn the game of bowls and enjoy the social games. All that is needed are flat soled shoes.
